Sometimes all we need is that tiny glimmer of hope, that tiny flickering flame in a room filled with darkness and despair, to turn our hearts and our minds around.' - Jarette Petzer, #ImStaying founder

In September 2019, Cape Town-based entrepreneur Jarette Petzer posted a video on Facebook. It was an emotional recognition of the difficulties faced by South Africa, as well as a heartfelt plea to nurture everything he loves about this country. Friends suggested that Petzer start a Facebook page to continue the conversation, and #ImStaying was born.

Within weeks, 400 000 South Africans of every race, socio-economic and political background joined the page to tell their stories of everyday life - of beauty, of hardship and the magnificence of their fellow citizens - and to share stories across cultural barriers, which many had never crossed before. By the end of December 2019, the page had more than a million followers, and it continues to grow.

Adhering to the maxim 'Good Thoughts. Good Words. Good Deeds.', #ImStaying is about South Africans creating social cohesion through storytelling - reaching out to each other to inspire real change in the country they love and want to see succeed, and shaping a new future
out of a painful past.

This book provides another platform for the diverse voices and stories of the #ImStaying movement, as well as giving an overview of how this uniquely South African group came about and why it's so important.

We have long been encouraged to think of old age as synonymous with deterioration. Yet, recent studies show that our decision-making skills improve as we age and our happiness levels peak in our eighties. What really happens to our brains as we get older?

More of us are living into our eighties than ever before. In The Changing Mind, neuroscientist, psychologist and internationally-bestselling author Daniel Levitin invites us to dramatically shift our understanding of growing older, demonstrating its many cognitive benefits. He draws on cutting-edge research to challenge common and flawed beliefs, including assumptions around memory loss and the focus on lifespan instead of 'healthspan'.

Levitin reveals the evolving power of the human brain from infancy to late adulthood.
Distilling the findings from over 4000 papers, he explains the importance of personality traits, lifestyle, memory and community on ageing, offering actionable tips that we can all start now, at any age.

Featuring compelling insights from individuals who have thrived far beyond the conventional age of retirement, this book offers realistic guidelines and practical cognition-enhancing tricks for everyone to follow during every decade of their life. This is a radical exploration of what
we all can learn from those who age joyously.

Two generations after democracy, South Africa's public schooling system continues to underperform. Despite some gains, many South African children still don't achieve basic academic milestones, and teachers are often blamed.
Where Light Shines Through allows glimmers of light to shine through the darkness of the public education story and reveals can-do teachers who are excelling despite the odds. It explores what we can learn from these teachers to build the quality of the schooling sector and the public sector more broadly - and turns our gaze momentarily away from public officials who are in power, towards those who are in service.
The remarkable stories of sixteen South African teachers from all over the country, illustrated with portraits from the Artist Proof Studio, show that while our attitude to life is often informed by our experiences, our attitude nevertheless remains our choice.

Globalisation, the impending 4th Industrial Revolution and migration in the 21st century have catapulted workplace diversity and inclusion into the forefront as instrumental tools in the success of organisations. Managing diversity in the South African workplace provides a scientific basis for understanding diversity and inclusion at the macro-legislative, meso-organisational and micro-individual levels.

Managing diversity in the South African workplace examines how diverse employees and groups can be accommodated within the South African workplace and the concomitant legislation that supports the inclusion of individuals from different backgrounds.

Contents include the following:

· Diversity in the South African context

· Diversity management concepts

· Theoretical perspectives on managing diversity

· Managing racial and ethnic diversity in the workplace

· Managing gender diversity in the workplace

· Managing religion and spirituality in the workplace

· Managing disability in the workplace

· Managing age diversity in the workplace

· Managing sexual and gender diversity in the workplace

· Managing diversity in South Africa: policy, plan and strategy

Labour MP for Tottenham David Lammy investigates the modern concept of 'tribes' and how New Tribalism has pernicious effects on the health of our society. Tribes will explore ways in which we can challenge and neuter New Tribalism, distinguishing between the 'good' sort of tribalism - the patriotism that is inclusive and open to newcomers, the ethnic or religious pride that celebrates a particular culture or faith tradition rather than denigrates others as inferior, the 'Spirit of Dunkirk' that saw ordinary people come together and do extraordinary things - from the harmful tribalism that excludes, denigrates and divides.

'n Prins op 'n wit perd kan nie alles heel maak nie.
“Wil jy sien waar baie mense se ewigheid eindig? In 'n egskeidingshof.”

SAS hero Chris Ryan tells you how to keep your family safe in a dangerous world.

In today's increasingly hostile climate people are anxious about how to keep themselves safe.

In 2016, Chris Ryan's family was targeted by a terrorist cell. He didn't know who they were, or where they might strike. All he knew was that he wanted to keep his family safe.

And since that's all any of us want, he decided to write this book.

In SAFE, Chris Ryan has compiled all the personal security expertise he acquired during his time serving with the Regiment - he was awarded the military medal for his quick-thinking and survival instincts. He reveals the skills that kept him safe working undercover in Northern Ireland, on the dangerous streets of central Africa and in the war zones of the Middle East. He explains how civilians can employ these techniques to keep themselves:

· Safe on the streets and in their vehicles
· Safe in a fight or in the midst of a terror incident
· Safe on aircraft or in hostage situations
· Safe from cyber attacks
· Safe in riots
· Safe from sexual predators and much more.

Chris Ryan analyses real-life incidents, such as the Manchester Arena bombing, the London Bridge terror attack and the Tunisian beach shootings, and explains how ordinary people should act if they find themselves in similar scenarios. And he reveals fascinating stories, never before told, about life in the Regiment and the dangers faced by SAS soldiers.

In a world of ever-present, ever-changing threats, this is a book that will empower you to take personal responsibility for your own security.

Showcasing the work of more than 200 women writers of African descent, this major international collection celebrates their contributions to literature and international culture.

Twenty-five years ago, Margaret Busby's groundbreaking anthology Daughters of Africa illuminated the 'silent, forgotten, underrated voices of black women' (The Washington Post). Published to international acclaim, it was hailed as 'an extraordinary body of achievement… a vital document of lost history' (The Sunday Times).

New Daughters of Africa continues that mission for a new generation, bringing together a selection of overlooked artists of the past with fresh and vibrant voices that have emerged from across the globe in the past two decades, from Antigua to Zimbabwe and Angola to the USA. Key figures join popular contemporaries in paying tribute to the heritage that unites them. Each of the pieces in this remarkable collection demonstrates an uplifting sense of sisterhood, honours the strong links that endure from generation to generation, and addresses the common obstacles women writers of colour face as they negotiate issues of race, gender and class, and confront vital matters of independence, freedom and oppression.

Custom, tradition, friendships, sisterhood, romance, sexuality, intersectional feminism, the politics of gender, race, and identity—all and more are explored in this glorious collection of work from over 200 writers. New Daughters of Africa spans a wealth of genres—autobiography, memoir, oral history, letters, diaries, short stories, novels, poetry, drama, humour, politics, journalism, essays and speeches—to demonstrate the diversity and remarkable literary achievements of black women who remain under-represented, and whose works continue to be under-rated, in world culture today.

Featuring women across the diaspora, New Daughters of Africa illuminates the richness and cultural history of this original continent and its enduring influence, while reflecting our own lives and issues today. Bold and insightful, brilliant in its intimacy and universality, this essential volume honours the talents of African daughters and the inspiring legacy that connects them—and all of us.

#NOTSILENT Women, womyn & womxn: Are they really nasty? This collection contains humour and pathos; it is an easy read, despite being academically grounded and completely relevant. Wonderful doodles at the start of each essay soften the page. This is a want-to-read book on an extremely important topic. In South Africa the #Fallist movement became an extremely important platform to discuss gender, while #metoo has become a global phenomenon. Ashanti Kunene, a Fallist-leader, is one of the contributors. Other essays include “Pussies are not for grabbing” (Joy Watson), “My arms are tired of holding this sign” (Amanda Gouws), “Oh, no you can't go to heaven in a broke down car” (Anastasia Slamat), “I'm with her” (Zama Khanyile), “To Womb it may concern” (Christi van der Westhuizen), “Womb with a (very strong) view” (Helen Moffet) and “Diary of an Indian woman” (Aarti Narse); but there are many more - twenty eight in total. The idea for the collection was born, cradled and nurtured between friends who wanted to create a space for writing and thinking about the women's marches. The group of feminists who contributed to this collection used the marches and the posters inspired by the marches as a vehicle which galvanised women into action to put pen to paper and show fervour for ongoing feminist activism. The nexus of this beautifully written and evocatively illustrated collection is telling narratives that link very personal stories with deeply political issues. These are the stories told by nasty women who are making the personal political, who are seeking to live their lives in ways that resist and challenge patriarchy. Through their very intimate nature these are stories that speak to the creation of a different kind of social order, one based on equity, the promotion of human rights and social justice. The presidential campaign in the USA grabbed the global imagination. It also grabbed the feminist imagination, presenting the hope that if a woman could become the president of the USA, women throughout the world would finally break through the reinforced glass ceiling. However, when it didn't happen, the lost opportunity became the metaphorical kick in the feminist gut on a global scale. Through the subsequent misogyny, vulgarity, lewd comments, the pussy-grabbing video, and the threats of the erosion of feminist activism in the trenches, worldwide a deep mourning arose from the feminist community. It was the name calling of “nasty women” that really smarted. Initial feelings of anger gave rise to empowerment of women — those who talk back to patriarchy — to embrace the label of “nasty women”.
