Add a twist of humour to South African nostalgia with Hagen Engler's latest offering. Black Twitter, Blitz And A Boerie As Long As Your Leg is a light-hearted, humorous read of multiple entries that can be dipped into at will. Optimistic, topical and definitely tongue-in-cheek, this book could easily be that last-minute gift that you pick up at the airport before you head back to the parental home for the holidays. Not too politically edgy - so as not to offend any sensitive elephants in the room - it draws on the great many things that South Africans do have in common, and that will give us all a moment to agree on something, for a change.
Black Twitter, Blitz And A Boerie As Long As Your Leg lists and celebrates the tiny, subtle aspects of South African life that we all experience but don't always notice. Engler looks at icons of our shared South Africanness but drills a little deeper to make them more specific, a bit more ridiculous, a bit funnier, and hopefully to induce an excited exclamation from the reader of, “Yoh! That's so true!” Even if the entry is ostensibly negative, Engler will find a poignant aspect of it that is lovable and help us laugh at ourselves.

It's been the year of living dangerously, a year of being acknowledged, and it will be the year of the long-awaited court case. The national conscience has been hard at work in this, his latest collection, But Will It Stand Up In Court?

Zapiro has been tackling the state of the nation, and what a state it's been in!

President Zuma launched a R5 million court case against Zapiro which comes to trial on 25 October 2012. This, combined with the ANC's court action against Brett Murray, informs the title of this year's collection.

Helm is 'n paar jaar gelede oorlede.

Zapiro comes of age in this 21st annual.
Zuma once again takes centre stage for all the wrong reasons along with his cronies the Guptas and his nemesis Malema. It's the year of the hashtag. #RhodesMustFall begat #FeesMustFall, also #Racism/#Sexism and #ZumaMustFall. With Nenegate and SARS wars, it's the rand that's really falling. Meanwhile, Pravin and Thuli fight the good fight.

Each cartoon is worth a thousand words and helps us make sense of our crazy, beautiful country where fact is indeed stranger than fiction.

The memoir of legendary cartoonist John Callahan, now a major motion picture directed by Gus Van Sant and starring Joaquin Phoenix, Jonah Hill, and Rooney Mara. Featuring more than 60 of Callahan's original cartoons In 1972, at the age of twenty-one, John Callahan was involved in a car crash that made him a quadriplegic. A heavy drinker since the age of twelve (alcohol had played a role in his crash), the accident could have been the beginning of a downward spiral. Instead, it sparked a personal transformation. By 1978, Callahan had sworn off drinking for good and began to draw cartoons. Over the next three decades, until his death in 2010, Callahan would become one of America's most beloved - and at times polarising - cartoonists. His work, which shows off a wacky and sometimes warped sense of humour, pokes fun at social conventions and pushes boundaries. One cartoon features Christ at the cross with a thought bubble reading 'T.G.I.F.' In another, three sheriffs on horseback approach an empty wheelchair in the desert. 'Don't worry,' one sheriff says to another, 'He won't get far on foot.' Don't Worry, He Won't Get Far on Foot recounts Callahan's life story, from the harrowing to the hilarious. Featuring more than sixty of Callahan's cartoons, it's a compelling look at art, addiction, disability and fame.

It turns out that two is a million more kids than one. Adam Mansbach famously gave voice to two of parenting's primal struggles in Go the Fuck to Sleep and You Have to Fucking Eat. Now Fuck, Now There Are Two of You tackles a new addition to the family and all the fears and frustrations attendant to the simple, math-defying fact that two is a million more kids than one. As you probably know by now, you shouldn't read it to a child.

Adulting (verb): To do grown-up things and hold responsibilities such as having a job, paying rent or doing laundry. A verb used exclusively by those who adult less than 50 per cent of the time. If you've forgotten to pay your council tax, you're hungover at work (again) and you've been living off pesto pasta for the past seventeen days, it's time to adult. Authentic grown-up Stephen Wildish has produced a book for everyone who feels they need assistance getting through the confusing landscape of the real world.

The unspoken rules for how women should behave in the workplace are as numerous as they are confusing. Ask for a pay rise? Pushy. Take credit for an idea? Arrogant. Admit a mistake? Weak. Successfully juggle work and family? Unpromotable. In How to Be Successful Without Hurting Men's Feelings, Sarah Cooper, author of the bestselling 100 Tricks to Appear Smart in Meetings, illustrates how women can achieve their dreams, succeed in their careers and become leaders, without harming the fragile male ego. This wickedly funny tongue-in-cheek guide includes chapters on 'How to Ace Your Job Interview Without Over-acing It', '9 Non-threatening Leadership Strategies for Women', and 'Choose Your Own Adventure: Do You Want to Be Likeable or Successful?'. It even includes several pages to doodle on while men finish explaining things. When all else fails, there is a set of cut-outable moustaches inside to allow women to seem more man-like, which will probably lead to a quick promotio

**The First Ever Maths Book to be a No.1 Bestseller** 'Wonderful ... superb' Daily Mail What makes a bridge wobble when it's not meant to? Billions of dollars mysteriously vanish into thin air? A building rock when its resonant frequency matches a gym class leaping to Snap's 1990 hit I've Got The Power? The answer is maths. Or, to be precise, what happens when maths goes wrong in the real world. As Matt Parker shows us, our modern lives are built on maths: computer programmes, finance, engineering. And most of the time this maths works quietly behind the scenes, until ... it doesn't. Exploring and explaining a litany of glitches, near-misses and mishaps involving the internet, big data, elections, street signs, lotteries, the Roman empire and a hapless Olympic shooting team, Matt Parker shows us the bizarre ways maths trips us up, and what this reveals about its essential place in our world. Mathematics doesn't have good 'people skills', but we would all be better off, he argues, if we saw it as a practical ally. This book shows how, by making maths our friend, we can learn from its pitfalls. It also contains puzzles, challenges, geometric socks, jokes about binary code and three deliberate mistakes. Getting it wrong has never been more fun.

As any retail or service worker will tell you, customers can be irrational, demanding, abusive, and brain-scramblingly, mind-bendingly strange. They can also be kind, thoughtful, funny, and full of pathos. Something about the often-fraught interaction between customer and worker, with the dividing line of the counter between them, loosens inhibitions, and has a kind of hot-house effect on eccentricity. In I Can't Remember the Title But the Cover is Blue, veteran bookseller Elias Greig collects the best, worst and downright weirdest customer encounters from his years working as a Sydney bookseller. From ill-behaved children to nostalgic seniors and everything in between, this hilarious and unpredictable book is the perfect gift for anyone who's ever been on the wrong side of a counter.
