A beautiful new album of compositions and arrangements for choir and strings by Norwegian composer, Ola Gjeilo.

Including new arrangements of familiar Christmas carols in a beautiful and intimate setting to emulate the feeling of “Hygge”.

Ola Gjeilo (pronounced Yay-lo) is one of the most frequently performed composers in the choral world.

An accomplished pianist, improvisations over his own published choral pieces have become a trademark of his collaborations across the world.

Although Norwegian by birth, it is perhaps Ola's adopted country of America that has influenced the composer's distinctive sound world the most, evolving a style that is both contemporary and familiar; thick harmonies and rich textures recall film score - music that forms a major part of the composer's inspiration.

2-CD digipack celebrating René Kollo's 80th birthday, a tribute to this multi-faceted artist and lively entertainer whose career spanned over four decades. The collection spans the wide range of his repertoire: on the one hand legendary Heldentenor roles with conductors such as Bernstein, Kleiber and Solti, on the other, operettas, folksongs and Weill's “Threepenny Opera.” Also included is one of Kollo's big early successes as a pop singer: his charming 1961 German-language version of the international hit “Mary Lou.”.

One of the most beloved and acclaimed Wagner tenors of the 20th century, his first Tannhäuser was recorded with Georg Solti as early as 1970. Following his Lohengrin triumph at Bayreuth, Herbert von Karajan invited him to perform at the Salzburg Easter Festival in a production of Die Meistersinger with the Berliner Philharmoniker. A studio recording with the Dresden Staatskapelle followed as did international débuts in quick succession: Vienna, Chicago, New York, London. And of course, Kollo was de rigueur in Bayreuth's “Centennial Ring” conducted by Pierre Boulez.

His vast operatic repertoire encompassed Tamino to Florestan, Don José and Otello to Benjamin Britten's Peter Grimes. In his stunning live performances Kollo identified completely with his roles and brought impressive character studies whether as Tannhäuser or Tristan, Herodes in Salome or Macheath in The Threepenny Opera.

Tianwa Yang is 'an artist of exceptional technique and musicianship' (BBC Music Magazine) and has established herself as a leading international performer and recording artist, winning the Annual Prize of the German Record Critics 2014 for her acclaimed recordings of Sarasate's complete violin works. Her 'stunning effortless virtuosity' and 'uncanny affinity for Spanish music' (All Things Strings) make her the ideal advocate for the music presented on this recording. The Introduction et Rondo capriccioso is a glittering showcase imbued with the passion of Iberian dance, while the Havanaise in E major is a languorous habanera. Less frequently heard are the evocative Caprice andalou, the songful Romance in C major, the rhapsodic Morceau de concert, and the improvisatory La Muse et le Poete.

This richly varied collection of meditative sacred music takes its name, Agnus Dei, from the opening item, a setting for voices of Samuel Barber's celebrated and deeply expressive Adagio for Strings. The hauntingly melodic choral masterpieces that fill these two CDs span five centuries and are the work of composers such as Bach, Mozart, Allegri, Albinoni, Fauré, Rachmaninov, Mendelssohn, Brahms, Elgar and, from nearer our own time, John Tavener and Henryk Górecki. They are performed by the choir of New College Oxford, an exemplar of Britain's great choral tradition.

For her debut album on the yellow label Camille has chosen music full of youthful invention - uplifting and positive. She brings her own sensitive interpretation to the French Romantic works for cello and orchestra by Saint-Saëns and Offenbach, including the former's First Cello Concerto, a masterpiece of its genre, and a delightful excerpt from the latter's Harmonies des bois “Les Larmes de Jacqueline”. The album was recorded with the Orchestre National de Lille and Alexandre Bloch, and also includes guest appearances by tenor Rolando Villazón and violinist Nemanja Radulović

This enthralling recital by the young American pianist George Li, silver medallist at the 2015 International Tchaikovsky Competition, marks his recording debut and launches a new relationship with Warner Classics. Captured at a live performance in the Mariinsky Concert Hall in St Petersburg, it presents a dramatically conceived programme of works by Haydn, Chopin, Rachmaninov and Liszt: a descent into deep darkness; re-emergence into the light, and a concluding, boisterous celebration.

The Z.E.N. Trio - pianist Zhang Zuo, violinist Esther Yoo and cellist Narek Hakhnazaryan - met on the BBC New Generation Artists' scheme in 2015 and have since performed concerts together for BBC radio as well as across the UK and elsewhere in Europe.

While the trio's name, “Z.E.N.” is an acronym for the three artists' initials, it also represents the philosophy with which they approach chamber music making - the forgoing of the self for total togetherness.

An imaginative and electrifying performer, Zhang Zuo (“Zee Zee”) began her musical training in Germany at the age of five.

Upon returning to her native China, she became one of the most sought after young artists in the nation, collaborating with leading Chinese orchestras with whom she retains a close link.

Esther Yoo first came to international attention in 2010 when, aged 16, she became the youngest prize winner of the 10th International Sibelius Violin Competition.

From 2014 to 2016 she was a BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artist, culminating in her BBC Proms debut.

Esther plays regular return engagements with Philharmonia Orchestra at London's Royal Festival Hall as well as with Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and has performed in tours across Asia and South America.

Since winning the Cello First Prize and Gold Medal at the XIV International Tchaikovsky Competition in 2011 at the age of 22, Narek Hakhnazaryan has performed with most major orchestras across the globe and has established himself internationally as one of the finest cellists of his generation.

Three exceptional artists join forces for an operatic treat! Star tenor Rolando Villazón, who was just named artistic director of Salzburg Mozart week, Ildar Abdrazakov, one of the most sought-after young basses in the operatic world (Vanity Fair), who is debuting on Deutsche Grammophon with this album and the in-coming music director of the Metropolitan Opera Yannick Nézet-Séguin - a conductor full of vim and vigor - with Orchestre Métropolitain de Montréal.

Following Rolando's and Yannick's latest successful collaboration in DG's Mozart opera cycle (Le Nozze di Figaro), this recording includes a wide range of beautiful French/Italian duets for tenor and bass presented with dedication and passion!

Rolando and Ildar go back to 2009 when they first performed together in a production of 'Lucia di Lammermoor' at the Met. They re-unite to sing a colorful variety of beautiful opera duets from nineteenth century drammi giocosi and opéras comiques, such as the beloved “Au fond du temple saint” from Les pêcheurs de perles (Bizet) or “Ah, quando fia… Se inclinassi a prender moglie” from L'italiana in Algeri (Rossini) as well as the duet “Je suis Escamillo” from Bizet's famous opera Carmen.

Besides the renowned repertoire the artists also recorded two tracks with special arrangements referring to their personal life: the legendary Granada, standing for Rolando's Latin heritage, Ochi Chernye as a tribute to Ildar's home country Russia.

Commotio, Matthew Berry, Bob Chilcott

Bob Chilcott is one of Britain's most popular and respected composers and his choral music is performed worldwide. He has always embraced a broad stylistic palette and his writing for voice combined with jazz instrumentation gives these works a sense of vitality and energy. Performed by leading jazz soloists and Commotio, the distinguished promoters of contemporary repertoire, this sequence of brilliant villanelles, folk song arrangements and witty settings reveals once again the breadth of Chilcott's musical imagination. Chilcott has enjoyed a lifelong association with choral music, as a composer, conductor, and singer. He was a chorister and choral scholar in the choir of King's College, Cambridge and for twelve years was a member of the vocal group The King's Singers. In 1997 he became a full time composer. A Little Jazz Mass, Requiem, and St. John Passion are among a number of works from his prolific output which are performed worldwide. He has written large-scale works, including The Angry Planet, community-based projects, pieces for children, and a significant amount of music for the church. In 2017 Chilcott was awarded an Honorary Fellowship of The Royal School of Church Music.
