Jonas dedicates his new album to the golden era of German music which flourished in Berlin between 1925 & 1935. He shows an undeniable mastery of this demanding repertoire, which was written for the leading tenors of the time.

'Lied vom Leben des Schrenk' by Künneke in particular has only been recorded 3 times before and is hugely challenging vocally. Jonas draws inspiration from an artistically rich and fascinating time of European musical history. The repertoire ranges from the Lehár-Tauber-Hits of the Roaring Twenties until the heyday of the mid 1930s which saw the eventual expulsion and banning of the composers, lyricists and singers who had defined the genre.

The repertoire draws from 3 strands of musical history (Talking movies, Operetta and Polystylistic composers) and shows Jonas' voice at its most flexible.

The album naturally also includes operetta evergreens by the unbeatable composer-tenor pairing of Franz Lehàr and Richard Tauber - including “Dein ist mein ganzes Herz”, “Hab' ein blaues Himmelbett ” and “Gern hab ich die Frauen geküßt”.

Jonas' favoured encores - Richard Tauber's famous self-penned “Du bist die Welt für mich” and “Ein Lied geht um die Welt” made famous by Joseph Schmidt in the movie of the same title - are also included.

Igor Levit has recorded Bach's Partitas BWV 825-830. It is the second release by the 27-year-old pianist, whom many regard as the greatest talent of his time, on Sony Classical. With his debut album, featuring the late Beethoven sonatas, Levit received critical acclaim and awards from international publications and organisations.

After Beethoven, Levit now turns his attention to Bach:

'It's simply amazing what Bach could do!' Levit exclaims 'He had a command of form second to none. Take the long slow movement of Partita no. 6: at the end it's not a sarabande any more, but a crazy, radical free fantasy - incredibly emotional, it stands no comparison. It really shakes you up. This is music of the utmost perfection!'

And of the minuet from Partita no. 5, BWV 829 Levit says: 'this is a humorous piece, not a minuet! And then suddenly it is one. And then it isn't.'

Igor Levit has worked his way meticulously towards the famous Bach partitas. He read, studied and played music that came before Bach. While he was pursuing his research, he didn't play Bach at all. And then he spent three or four years on the partitas without performing them in concert until he had the feeling he had finally mastered the scores and could do them justice.

In the intervening period since his first album was released, the young pianist has become more laid-back, and that is immediately apparent from a comparison of the two albums. When he recorded the Beethoven sonatas, Levit seemed to be hurling all his strength at the keyboard, battling the elements, as it were. In the Bach partitas, a relaxed distance can be felt; a happy calm that makes it easy for the pianist to enjoy performing the music to the full.

'For the first time in my life, I have the feeling that the way I play now is just right for me' he says. 'Everything comes together, inwardly and programmatically. I can see light at the end of the tunnel, and that's where I want to go. Since then, I've felt immensely relaxed. It's true that I had to struggle with every note from the Bach just like with Beethoven - but this time I enjoyed the struggle.'

Antonín Dvorák's Cello Concerto is one of the absolute masterpieces of the genre, and every world-class cellist naturally takes it into his repertoire. This is also the case for Daniel Müller-Schott, who will be performing it in the great concert halls of Europe in 2014 and in the Lincoln Center in New York: thus in the very same city where Dvorák worked as conservatory director and where he wrote the concerto.

Dvorák began his work in passionate, stormy mood, but completed it in lyrical, elegiac vein under the shadow of the illness and death of his sister-in-law Josefina, who had been his own first love.

Müller-Schott's new recording also includes several chamber music works and arrangements that offer insight as to how Dvorák gradually accustomed himself to the cello, up to the point when he composed his concerto in 1894-5. There is the catchy 'Rondo' that Dvorák wrote in 1892 for a chamber music tour, and 'Silent Woods', an arrangement made for the same tour, heard here in Dvorák's own orchestral versions. Together with the pianist Robert Kulek, Müller-Schott has also recorded arrangements of the four Romantic Pieces op. 75 and of 'Songs my mother taught me' from the Gypsy Songs cycle. The latter is perfectly suited to the cello's cantabile character and Daniel Müller-Schott's interpretation.

This is a 'Sony Classical' re-issue to mark the canonization of Pope John Paul II on April 27. To honour him, Plácido Domingo will perform repertoire from this album at the ceremony in Poznan, Poland. It includes songs inspired by the Poems of John Paul II - Karol Wojtyła. Featuring guest artists Josh Groban, Katherine Jenkins, Andrea Bocelli and Vanessa Williams. 'These songs have enormous significance for me ... They will speak not only to religious people but to anyone who respects that uniquely great man, John Paul II, who chose to dedicate his life to the service of humanity and of God.' Plácido Domingo. One of the most beloved spiritual leaders of the modern era, Pope John Paul II was not only a humanitarian and theologian, but an artist and author. In his pre-Papal life as Karol Wojtyła he wrote plays, essays, and, most notably, poetry. For this CD, Plácido Domingo and his son Plácido Domingo Jr. used a selection of not only religious poetry, but also poems about love and people's daily life.

The SWR Vokalensemble Stuttgart is one of the few choirs enjoying an international reputation. Their latest recording has “America” as its subject - and presents a tremendously wide range of forms and expressions, from music written under the influence of European masters to works that boldly explore experiments in aesthetic reorientation. The big names of the U.S. composers are of course represented, including Leonard Bernstein with his single a cappella work, the “Missa Brevis”, Steve Reich with his minimalist “Proverb” and John Cage with some of his late “Number Pieces”. Everything is presented at the highest artistic level, with ravishing sonics that cannot be beat.
