For her second Deutsche Grammophon album, former Royal Harpist Catrin Finch plays music by the beloved British composer, John Rutter, as well as new pieces and arrangements of her own.

It includes new works by John Rutter, and the World Premiere recording of his Suite Lyrique for harp and strings. Further highlights include arrangements of traditional Welsh folksongs, where Catrin Finch is joined by star award-winning Welsh soprano Elin Manahan Thomas.

John Rutter is probably the world's most-performed choral composer, with decades of best selling compositions and arrangements to his name - including an anthem specially commissioned for the royal wedding by Prince William and Kate Middleton, and some of the most loved Christmas carols of modern times.

The fourteen works for piano and orchestra of Ferdinand Ries stand alongside those of Hummel as the finest and most important of their kind from the early decades of the 19th century. Intensely lyrical and yet displaying at times a rugged Beethovenian grandeur, Ries's eight concertos are works of impressive musical stature. In this fifth and final recording we encounter the first and last of his published concertos and the virtuosic Rondeau brillant, Op. 144. “Sparkling performances… the recording is first rate.” (Penguin Guide on Vol. 3, 8570440).

Narrative vocal traditions are heard in Sibelius's nationalist Vapautettu kuningatar, Bruckner's heroic Helgoland, and Grieg's Landkjenning, which tells of the 10th century Norwegian king Oleg Tryggvason. Das Liebesmahl der Apostel anticipates the religious ecstasies of Wagner's Parsifal, while Debussy's early cantata Invocation resonates with Gallic sparkle.
